2014 First Peony Order of the Year

I took a moment this past week to make my first peony order of the year. This year I placed my first order with Solaris Farms. I am really excited about this order. I instantly fell in love with Peony 'Angel Emily' last year when I saw the photo of it on their web site. Its lavender color and loads of blooms on a rockii species plant with its signature purple flares just made me giddy. I really wanted it. Even though that was only April of last year, it was, sadly, already sold out. So I was delighted to see that they were offering it again this year. Even though the price hadn't gone down any since last year, I still wanted it. I also found the listing for Peony 'New Millennium' in their intersectional peony offering, with a price half of what it was available for last year. So even though the price tags were still hefty, I decided to order both! I am also curious to see the size and quality of the roots they send as well as their packaging and shipment method. I am hoping that I will find another good, quality peony supplier in Solaris Farms. If you've never seen their site before, perhaps you should check it out to see if anything catches your eye! :-)

    1. Bin,

Thank you! I don't have many tree peonies yet, at least not as many as herbaceous! I'd love to see some pictures of your peonies. Feel free to send me some pics!

    2. Thank you! Adriana, I don't have a garden, just grew some rockii tree peonies and one ludlowii tree peony from seeds. I hope they can survive. So I don't have any flower pics yet. Hope I can see the flower pics of your tree peonies this spring :).

  2. I have ordered from Solaris Farms. They sent great fresh roots. My Bartzella had nine eyes. Most of the plants bloomed the following year.

    1. Kimmie,

That's great information! Thank you. I'm glad to hear you had such a positive experience with Solaris Farms. I am definitely looking forward to receiving my order this fall. Oh, such a long wait! :-P

  3. I ended up ordering 485 tree peonies over the winter simply because I was only allowed to order a minimal of 5 per species, and it was pretty tough to get them all potted up on the brief thaws we've had through this winter.

This was my only choice because it took a few months for the licensing, paperwork, etc to go through to import plants from China, but should be a huge show once it warms up enough to get them to sprout.

I'm looking for a source of tissue cultured intersectional peonies where I can get lots of new species at a wholesale rate.

    1. Steve,

Now that's a lot of peonies! I'd love to see some pictures of all of those in bloom as well. Sounds like you need to start your own botanical garden!

I don't know of a source for tissue cultured intersectionals, but good luck finding a source.
